Red Ribbon Week At FMHS

This week across the nation, school districts celebrate the greatest tradition that raises awareness of the danger of drugs and the potential consequences that may come out of it. Red Ribbon Week is upon us and we at FMHS have taken upon the tradition to create a specific spirit day for each day of this week.

This week has the following: Super Hero Day, Wear Red Day, Red White and Blue Day, Blue Day, and Pink Out Day. Superhero Day allows us to dress up as heroes to represent the amount of lives we are able to save by spreading the news of drug prevention. Wear Red Day represents the bright color to remind everyone to spread awareness. Red White and Blue Day makes us wear our American colors to expresses the phrase “Campaign for Victory” to spread the awareness across the nation. Pink Out Day makes us to dress out completely in pink to promote breast cancer awareness and drug abuse around the country.

Other schools like FMHS have taken up the tradition to wear specific clothing to support the awareness of drug abuse. Schools like Gulf Coast High School in Naples, Florida have decided to wear their favorite team shirt to “Team up against Drugs”, and wear black clothing to “Black out Drugs”. However, schools like Lely High School went creative and have done a Food Drive Raffle to celebrate Red Ribbon Week. The raffle helps contribute to give food to charity, and the winners of the Raffle are able to get free tickets to homecoming and the Coconut Bowl. Including this, the school is also allowing students to dress out in red to support the tradition of Red Ribbon Week.

Sometimes, parent’s advice is not able to stop kids from drug abuse. However, counselors and friends are able to support victims who are going through the struggles of the toxicity of drugs that spread across the nation.
