Black History Month

As part of Black History Month, today we honor Bessie Coleman. Coleman was the first woman of African American descent to hold a pilot’s license. Born in Texas in the 20’s, Coleman saved up money to go to France to become a pilot, since the United States didn’t provide flight school opportunities to African Americans or women. Her role in pioneering was not only an inspiration to pilots, but to all of us, reminding us to never let anything stand in our way.

TSI Testing is tomorrow, Thursday 2/28 in room 1345. If you signed up for TSI testing and completed your pre assessment, you will report to 1345 at 8:20. Do not be late and do not forget as I cannot come hunt you down. See Mrs. Zinn in room 1460 TODAY if you have any questions about tomorrow’s testing!

Adera Foundation

The Adera Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping kids in Africa. A student is collecting soccer cleats for the organization so that kids in Africa can play soccer in good shoes. If you have any old soccer cleats that you no longer use, please donate them in the clear tub out by the FM sign in the cafeteria. Sizes need to be 8-12 for boys and 6-10 for girls.

Globally Green

Did you know that we are amidst the largest period of species extinction in the last 60 million years? Normally, between one and five species will go extinct annually. However, scientists estimate that we are now losing species at 1,000 to 10,000 times the normal rate, with multiple extinctions daily. Multiple species will disappear before we learn about them or the benefits they bring to our planet. This year’s Earth Day theme is “Protect our Species.” Globally green is celebrating Earth Day and all things GREEN this year with special t-shirts. A table is set up during all lunches this week. Or come by room 2370 and sign up! But hurry! The ordering deadline is March 5!

Interact Club

Do you have old shoes that you never wear?  Interact Club has partnered with Soles4Souls to collect new and gently used shoes for people in poverty. If you have any shows that you want to get rid of, please bring them to one of our collection bins around the school. Thank you and have a great day Jags!
