Spirit Days Galore

Throughout Homecoming week, FMHS was filled with nostalgic movie wall decorations such as posters, lights, and Cane’s Chicken take-out boxes. With the help of Student Council, small groups around the school were able to decorate freely with the supervision of Jennifer Owens.

To plan themes to use to decorate the hallways, she and the Student Council came up with new ones based off of homecoming themes and past ideas.

“I have to send the ideas to Mrs. Lail first, and sometimes it’s better to use recycled ideas, that way we know for sure they will be used,” Owens said.

The Student Council President Jackie Robilard and Vice President Hannah Schwartz are in charge of themes and also decide the sprit days based off the Western homecoming theme.

Seeing how the internet is great to get the word out to Homecoming, many teachers joined in to spread the word.

“Mrs.Pintz and Mrs. Rupard spread the word out by posting information about Homecoming on Twitter and Facebook,” Owens said.

Because of social media like Facebook and Twitter, students were able to get the word on the upcoming spirit days prior to morning announcements. That said, students happily participated in almost all the spirit days, showing off their denim on Denim Day and their Texan pride on Texas Pride Day.

Although the spirit days were a success in the participation area, opinions on them were still lingering around.

“I would’ve loved to move Pajama day to later in the week rather than Monday, that way the students could feel more comfortable,” Owens said. “I would rather have changed some of the Texan days as well so they are not all the same.”

Through the help of Student Council and Owens, Homecoming week was another job well done, providing us wonderfully designed hallway decorations, decorating the walls to nostalgic movies and TV shows of the ages, referencing ones likes Toy Story, Django Unchained, Footloose, the list goes on and on.
