A Healthy America

By Sammy Kaushik

Do you go to the gym or exercise at least once a day? Many Americans don’t, and it is damaging America‘s perception around the world. In this fast paced world of technology, we forget to take care of our bodies and hit the gym. I believe there are three main things that contribute to America being viewed badly: fast food, inactivity, and obesity. We have to reduce or completely stop these things to get rid of this stereotype.

It is widely known that fast food is bad for you, but the reason people keep on eating it is because it’s convenient and they do not know how bad it truly is for you. One of the main factors that is contributed to the rising obesity rate is fast food. Fast food is about 11% of an average American’s diet. One Whopper from Burger King contains over 600 calories and if you add a coke and some fries that could be well over 1000. Considering that the recommended calorie intake is around 2000, one fast food meal could cover breakfast and lunch. Fast Food also has bountiful amounts of fat, sodium, and cholesterol. Trans Fat specifically can cause numerous types of heart diseases. Eating fast food can expose you to many risks to your health and even your life, so throw away the burger and opt for a salad.

Go out right now and start, because if you do not take the first step, you will never get started. This perception of the United States can be changed and together we can make a difference in our country, and build a more healthy world.
