La La Land Review

Alexis Smith

La la Land is a film that has taken the movie scene by storm. With a remarkable cast, a phenomenal soundtrack, and a plot designed to break hearts and make dreams come true, La La Land has hit a homerun in Hollywood. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling really brought the film to life, creating loveable characters with heart wrenching stories. The classic “Hollywood” feel of the film interlaces with relatable characters to give the audience a down to earth, personable experience. Although I was slightly disappointed with the ending, it was necessary to resolve the plot. The characters eventually chose the love of their dreams over their love for each other, resulting in a somber, but hopeful ending. The film was about chasing dreams, and the love story was necessary but wasn’t the main focus. As a viewer, I wanted the characters to end up together,as most did, but in order for the plot to resolve, they had to separate. In order for Mia to achieve her timeless dream of being an actress and for Sebastian to open his jazz club, they had to agree that their dreams were more important than their love. As a result, the movie had a relatively happy ending because both of the loveable characters achieved their dreams. However, the ending was quite sad from a romantic standpoint. Overall, the movie was a success due to the phenomenal cast and the beautiful plot that gave a very light feel to those watching it.
