Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy, one of the biggest names in golf, is not only a phenomenal athlete, but a good-minded individual as well. However, McIlroy has recently been involved in a small controversy after playing a game of golf with the highly controversial President Trump. McIlroy is usually very quick to apologize when things upset his fans, but this time he has decided to defend his actions. He claims that there is no harm in playing a simple game of golf, but the public sees it as an endorsement for Trump.

I personally do not see the issue in McIlroy accepting Trump’s invitation, but I believe that he should address the public due to their discomfort with the situation. Overall, this was McIlroy’s choice and people should not be blaming him for the problem at hand. McIlroy is a grown man who can make decisions about what he does in his free time, both politically and recreationally. If people choose not to respect his decisions, they should keep that to themselves. McIlroy’s decision would’ve caused the same issue if he had declined Trump’s offer. Regardless of who the President is, McIlroy, originally from Northern Ireland, resides in The United States and should be allowed to accept a game of golf with the President without having his political and moral stance questioned.
