Flower Mound’s third district football game of the season was another close battle at Hebron’s Hawk Stadium on October 12.

With a score of 27-20, junior quarterback Connor Wanhanen, senior quarterback Matt Hirst, and senior running back Finn Foster provided touchdowns for the Jaguars. However, Flower Mound’s defense was unable to keep Hebron from scoring.

Wanhanen feels that the team is making too many mistakes.

“The team has made many physical errors in the past games,” Wanhanen said. “We generally execute plays correctly at practice. We just need to transition that to the game.  If we keep working hard and focus on one thing each day, that will hopefully improve our performance.”

Looking forward to the Mound Showdown with Marcus November 2, head coach Dane Johnson believes the Jag’s assets aren’t shown as much in physical attributes, but in the players’ character.

“I think our kids are our biggest strength in this game,” Johnson said. “They’ve fought, and they don’t give up. The players believe in each other, and together they are confident that they can win it. Our senior class is going to make the biggest difference.”

Johnson is excited to join the tradition of the Mound Showdown this year as the head coach.

“There is this electricity in the air that is surrounding this week,” Johnson said. “There are about 3 schools in the state that have a game this big. I’m looking forward to it and I want the players to do well. I expect us to come out on top.”
