Lewisville Independent School District has hired a new security firm, Vets Securing America, to patrol school parking lots during the school day.
Vets Securing America is a security firm composed of retired veterans, police officers, and former security guards who continue to dedicate their lives to the protection of others.
“I don’t know how long the contract is,” Assistant Principal Joseph Bracket said. “I don’t know if it’s a one year or a two year contract. But when the contract expires, LISD is required by law to open up the position for bidding.”
LISD’s contract with the old firm expired, and VSA offered the lowest price for the position.
“Their primary job will be to keep students from using the teacher parking lot,” Bracket said.
The guards will also be patrolling the student parking lots during regular school days and will be enforcing many rules.
“If there are any students out in the parking lot, the security guards will stop them, ask for their name and I.D. number, and ask why they’re out in the parking lot,” Bracket said. “If they have a parking lot pass the security guards will say ‘Great, have a nice day’. If not they’ll ask the student to return to the building and then relay the information to me.”
The security guards will also be patrolling the 9th grade campus once it’s built. Bracket is unsure whether or not the new campus will affect the school’s traffic flow.
Students are reminded to follow parking lot regulations, as the new security firm will enforce these rules and keep a vigilant watch on the parking lots.
