The Fourteenth

Alisha Naushahi, Guest Writer

The atmosphere was carefree and happy, I listened to my aunts, uncles and cousins as they sang me happy birthday. Their voices blended together, but I could hear them all separately. I smiled in embarrassment as they clapped and cheered, my heart skipping happily. The cake was soft and the taste of mango ice cream felt right. I watched as everyone ate, laughing and talking with each other. I liked being here, surrounded by most of my family. I felt at peace, as if nothing could make me feel any better than this exact moment.

I really loved turning 14.
