A New Art Exhibit in Town
November 9, 2012
Art pieces from eight FMHS students will be on display at the Flower Mound Public Library through the month of November as a part of the Flower Mound Arts Month.
“The eight art pieces will be from students of Mrs. Gallatin, Mrs. Marino and my class,” Art Department co-chair Suzanne McLeod said.
The art pieces from Mrs. Gallatin’s class include a monotype work called “Shoes” by senior Katherine Choi, another monotype “Dr. Lang” by senior Lauren Gasperlin, and “Paintbrush Surprise” an acrylic piece by junior Joanna Cho.
Three more pieces are from Mrs. Marino’s classes: an ink and mixed media piece “It’s OK” by senior Adam Mir, a charcoal piece entitled “Untitled (Candle Stick)” by freshman Veda Shenoy, and another charcoal artwork named “Lights” by sophomore Ashley Johnson.
Two self-portrait drawings are presented by Ms. McLeod’s class, both titled “Blowing Bubbles” by sophomore Matt Wasson and freshman Makaela Painter.
“Art Month is an interesting way to bring attention to rising artists,” Senior Katherine Choi said. “Art is usually not as recognized as other activities, like football, are. It’s a nice way to show the variety of cultures present in Flower Mound.”
Intended to recognize artists in the local community, Art Month was established by the Flower Mound Public Arts Committee to promote citizens to participate in local visual and performing arts.
“This is the library’s second high school art exhibit, and the Public Arts Committee is pleased to display the art for the month of November,” Sue Compton, Director of Library Services said.
Art pieces will be exhibited at the library for the whole month, instead of the one week they were shown last year. Flower Mound and Marcus are each displaying eight pieces, as opposed to the original four shown.
