On May 18 through 21, the FMHS Varsity Choir will voyage to California for a performance tour of a lifetime, as well as touring San Francisco, Sausilito, Santa Cruz, and many other Californian tourist sites.
The choir goes on a tour every year, alternating between in-state and out-of-state. After last year’s tour to Corpus Christi, the choir anticipates this trip to California.
The choir will perform gospel music, including “Exultate Deo” by Scarlatti, “Esto Les Digo” by Lange, and “I’m Gonna Sing ‘Til the Spirit Moves in My Heart” by Hogan.
“On this trip, we will perform very religious music because we’re performing at a Sunday morning mass,” senior Varsity Women’s Choir member Raphaelle Bernier said.
The Varsity Choirs have been rehearsing their music for the past few weeks.
“There is a lot of preparation required,” choir director Dr. Mark Rohwer said. “But we can motivate our students to practice easily when you know that the payoff is a performance tour in San Francisco.”
The choir will visit many of San Francisco’s attractions. Some of the highlights include Chinatown, Alcatraz, Sausalito, Fisherman’s Wharf, among others.
“San Francisco is a gorgeous city,” freshman Cassidy Hennessy said. “Some of the most famous tourist sites in the world are there, and we have the opportunity to view them.”
However, of all the events, the choir awaits for one night. The students will board a party boat for a evening of dinner and dancing.
The choir will also participate in a workshop run by the Music Director of the Grammy Award-Winning choir, Chanticleer.
“Flower Mound choir has won many Grammys before,” Benier said. “We have earned lots of money and other choirs consider us very prestigious, which gives us opportunities like this with the director.”
Choir members rehearse their performances daily, practicing both songs and dances for the concerts.
“I am really looking forward to this trip,” Bernier said. “We can’t wait to tour California and work with Chanticleer.”
Each of the choir members enthusiastically await the concert tour in California, and they hope to raise the bar for future concert tours.
