FMHS won the Regional UIL Academic Meet, which was held in Lubbock, Texas, on April 27th.
Senior Adeesh Jain placed first in both Calculator Applications and Mathematics. Senior Jimmy Cao came third in the science division. Freshman Aditya Durvasula won second place in Number Sense, fourth place in Mathematics, and fifth place in Calculator Applications. Since these three students have placed, they will be able to move on to the state meet at the University of Texas at Austin.
FMHS’s Number Sense, Calculator Applications, and Mathematics teams each placed first in their division, making them among the top four teams in Texas and also qualifiers in the state meet.
Both Durvasula and Jain compete in all three teams. Junior Lakshmi Menon and freshman Niharika Koka make up the rest of the Number Sense team. The Mathematics team is comprised of senior Aaron Tan and Menon. Calculator Applications includes junior Jon Boisvert and junior Sarah Song.
Senior Reid Levenick placed 5th in Computer Science. Senior Meredith Hiles won 6th place in Informative Speaking, and senior Stephen Adkison earned 6th in Persuasive Speaking. While they did earn medals at the regional meet, these students will not be moving on to state.
