Last Saturday, May 18, Flower Mound High School held the first annual Volleyball Jag Bash. This grass volleyball tournament raised money for the Lady Jags in an exciting way. Students, teachers, and Jag-supporters joined together at McKamy Middle School to create over 25 different volleyball teams. Organized by head FMHS volleyball coach Marci Brinkman, this new fundraiser had a successful turnout.
“I had a great time at the tournament,” freshman Michelle Scheffler said. “A lot more people came than expected. I’d say anywhere from 100 to 150 people showed up.”
Participants in the Jag Bash ranged from the Lady Jags themselves all the way to the parents and siblings looking for an enjoyable way to show their support.
Despite temperatures reaching up to 90 degrees, the playing continued from early morning, all the way to nearly 4:00 PM.
“By the end of the day, it became extremely tiring,” junior Tyler Wettstein said. “I have a lot more respect for volleyball players now that I’ve actually played.”
Not only will the money be put to good use funding new volleyball uniforms and supplies, it also provided a great experience for the community.
“I’m really glad we had this tournament as our fundraiser,” freshman Kateyln Young said. “It turned out more effective than selling t-shirts or Sonic cards like we had the previous fall. Not only did we raise money, but we did it in a way that was fun for everyone.”
With all the participating teams, the tournament had fantastic competition. This year, junior Logan Kelly’s team, the “Six Packers”, took the win.
