The feeder schools of FMHS hosted a senior breakfast on Thursday, May 23, for the graduates of Vickery, Old Settlers, Garden Ridge and Liberty could revisit their school and teachers.
“The school was so much smaller than I remembered,” senior Mikaila Lapinsk said. “Everything was so tiny and the kids just looked at us in awe. It was also really cool to go back and see some of the teachers we had. They were so amazed at how much we have all changed and what we want to do with our lives.”
After seeing the school itself, the seniors hosted a Q&A session with the kids, answering various school-related questions.
“I went to Old Settlers, and it was really weird because a lot of the kids were asking questions about the SAT and other various tests,” senior Mackay Jacobsen said. “When I was in elementary school, I had no idea what the SAT was.”
The students also got to walk around and experience the schools from an adult standpoint, revisiting fond memories.
“Going back to Vickery elementary school was really cool, because it made me realize how long ago elementary school was and how far I’ve come,” senior Haley Rausch said. “I’m so sad to leave such a vital chapter of my life behind, but I’m also ready to get out there and explore the world. We are moving onto bigger and better things.”
Going back seemed almost surreal to a lot of the seniors, especially those who didn’t yet fully realize that college was upon them.
“It was so cool to be able to go back and see an important chapter in our lives before we head off to college,” Jacobsen said. “It is going to make me miss it here so much and I’m so grateful to Flower Mound for giving us the opportunity to say goodbye to the teachers and thank them for everything they did for us before we leave.”
About 806 seniors will leave this part of life behind, exploring the world and making a future for themselves.
