Hoedown at the Mound

The Celebrations Event Center located in Highland Village welcomed many Flower Mound students to celebrate the homecoming dance on September 28.Due to construction, the event was held off campus this year. However, the Celebrations Center still created a memorable experience for many students at Flower Mound. The arrangement was designed and managed by the Student Council, led by Kellye Waller and Jennifer Owens.

At the end of every school year, after class and officer elections, StuCo starts brainstorming about themes for homecoming.

“Student Council discussed and decided that the country theme had not been done at FMHS,” Waller said, “and StuCo had many requests to do a Sadie Hawkins dance where girls ask the boys.”

The homecoming dance was packed with students dressed in the country casual or semi formal theme. Sticking with the country western theme, girls wore formal dresses with complimentary cowboy boots. The guys matched their dates with a plaid button up shirt, jeans and boots.

According to StuCo, the tickets sales were more successful than the previous years.

“The dance was packed full of students,” freshman Brooke Harris said, “The DJ was amazing too

A majority of students agreed that the DJ had been a big hit.

“The DJ accepted all requests, but mostly rap and country music was played,” freshman Annie Sharp said.

StuCo members supplied refreshments for the dance. A wide variety of cookies, accompanied with fresh lemonade and bottled water were served by volunteers at the Celebrations Center.

The proceeds obtained from the dance will go towards furthering school activities and organizations. Next year, StuCo plans to arrange a homecoming dance just as successful, if not more.
