Jags Miss Playoff Opportunity

The Jaguars lost 54-14 to the Denton Ryan Raiders last Friday at Denton’s C.H. Collins Athletic Complex, missing out on a playoff opportunity.

After winning the Mound Showdown, Flower Mound only needed to win their final game of the season.

The first half of the game was dim for the Jags. Within their six possessions, they never scored. Two of the drives also ended in interceptions thrown by senior quarterback Connor Wanhanen. The defense was unable to keep the Raiders from scoring, too. By halftime, Denton Ryan had a 42-0 lead.

After senior quarterback John Hofmeister took over the position, senior running back Hunter Huddleston scored with a 10-yard touchdown pass. Denton Ryan scored again but missed the extra point.

At the start of the fourth quarter, senior running back Daniel DeLorimiere ran 26-yards for a touchdown. The Raiders scored once again when they ran back a fumbled ball for 30 yards. The game ended with a score of 54-14.

Head coach Dane Johnson thought the team was not fully prepared going into the game.

“I think we were spent,” Johnson said. “We did not recover from the game before. We looked sluggish and tired Friday night.”

Although Flower Mound finished 2-8 and tied for last place in District 5-5A with Marcus this season, Johnson is still proud of the team.

“Even though our record was not what we wanted, the players did a great job representing the school,” Johnson said.

Next year, Johnson believes the team will have a winning season as long as they build up their strength.

“We have to become more tough next year if want to compete with the football teams in this area,” Johnson said. “We have to be physically and mentally tougher for us to reach our full potential.”
