Basically Brilliant
January 10, 2014
The self-titled album released in October by newly emerging pop rockers Basic Vacation has the potential to be the next teenage anthem of the new year.
Composed of vocalist Chris Greatti, bassist Jon Paul, and drummer Mike Montalbano, the band originally formed in early 2012. Now, a year later, they are running on the fast track, already releasing their first EP produced by Grammy Award-winning producer David Kahne.
Basic Vacation has a sound comm only associated with teenage pop-rock music. Their music is about as fast-paced as their careers, with upbeat bass and lyrics that will have everyone singing along by the end of the song.
“I believe in me and you/no matter what they put us through” chants Greatti in “I Believe.” The song has become the frontrunner of the band’s success being the most popular on the Basic Vacation EP. It has an all-encompassing inspirational message to get up, keep going and believe in yourself.
In both “I Believe” and “It’s All Happening”, there is a theme surrounding the ever present need to prove wrong all the naysayers. They are doing just that with only a year under their belts and already having the support of Capitol Records and Lady Gaga’s label, Atom Factory Music.
Basic Vacation’s music screams of individuality. It has a sound in common with Foster The People, Imagine Dragons and Bastille, but just like those bands, their music is completely their own.
There is so much energy and pure emotion present in the album that it leaves the listener craving more. Luckily, this isn’t the last the music industry will be hearing from Basic Vacation; they already have a full-length album planned to release in 2014.
As for now, the boys are currently touring with music industry giant 30 Seconds to Mars and building up their fan base–an easily achievable goal considering their likable demeanor and catchy sound. Expect to hear more from Basic Vacation on radio stations very soon.
