“Stuffing” Faces at Thanksgiving (One Strange Meal at a Time)

The holiday season is just around the corner, and cooking is usually a favorite past time. Food has always brought families and friends together at the table, something that starts conversations and reunites loved ones. Some classic favorite holiday goodies may be pumpkin bread, roasted turkey, or cranberry sauce, but some people have the strangest favorite holiday foods.

“Giblet gravy is one heck of a creation,” Liberty Christian junior Sarai Harding said. “Most would find it gross and chunky, but I find it creamy and delicious.”

Giblet gravy is made from leftover turkey parts that are melted together to be poured over the turkey, mashed potatoes or any option on your Thanksgiving plate.

Another favorite holiday choice is baked with a sweet and tart vegetable: rhubarb.

“My favorite dish at Thanksgiving is rhubarb pie,” sophomore Courtney Demers said. “It’s way different than any other pie on the dinner table, but I think that is why I like it so much. Rhubarb pie adds a little twist to the average Thanksgiving meal.”

Some people have favorite meals that are traditional Thanksgiving dishes.

“I really like stuffing,” junior Adam Haworth said. “There are so many different ways to make it, but my mom makes the best stuffing.”

Stuffing is one of the staples on the Thanksgiving table, but cranberry sauce is also a must.

“My grandma makes cranberry sauce every year, and it is what I look forward to the most,” junior Trevor Jurecka said. “Cranberries have a tart taste but my grandma adds so much sugar that it takes like fruit syrup. It’s so good. I don’t see how people can’t resist to put it on everything.”

One last Thanksgiving meal that is not so normal is razzleberry pie.  Junior Madison McGuire finds it as her favorite.

“Razzleberry pie is made from raspberries and Marionberries,” Madison said. “This combination is absolutely amazing, but even the crust is downright delicious. It has a flaky, pastry-like texture that almost melts in your mouth.”

No matter the strange food, families will always feel connected to each other through it. Sometimes these weird experiences are what bring them closer in the end. As Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw once said, “There is no sincerer love than the love of food.”
