The bombings were a sign that ISIS is still a big threat to national security. This reminds us once again that they will not back down. The ideals behind their existence follow Salafi jihadism. Essentially it is a more extreme form of Sunni and Islamism that does not believe in any sort of democracy. They believe in uniting under God instead of a dictator or leader.
We, as Americans, believe in freedom and democracy. Countries like France believe in this as well. Democracies believe in a government controlled by the people. This is what ISIS wants to get rid of, because it’s against their idea of uniting to God only. The attacks in Brussels show their thirst to destroy democracy, because they attacked the country of Belgium, which is adjacent to France. Brussels is also the home of NATO’s headquarters.
In conclusion, the Islamic State attacked innocent people who value democracy, furthering their quest to end the ways of western civilization.
