FMHS’s New Homecoming Ballots

The new and improved Homecoming ballot forms were passed out for students to vote during second period, on October 4th.

This year, clubs and other organizations nominated their members to be elected for the homecoming court. Each grade level has their own ballot, and students vote for the peers in their corresponding grade.

“We want our students to be more involved in school. Homecoming court shouldn’t be people who aren’t the best role models for their peers. We want our kings and queens to be a good representation of how the school should be,” Solji Jung, President of the Student Council said.

In addition to trying to get students more involved in school activities, the faculty of FMHS is also trying to prevent joke ballot nominations.

“There have been so many joke votes in the past. So, to fix that problem, we are trying to get rid of them by making it the organization’s responsibility to nominate members,” Jung said.

These joke nominations can offend and hurt students’ feelings.

“There have been many times where parents have called, and their kids have been crying because they had been put on the homecoming ballot as a joke,” Jung said.

Unfortunately, the faculty is still dealing with some technical problems involving the new ballots; some of the sophomore sheets were printed incorrectly, and a few of the people that were supposed to be on the sheet were not even listed on the ballot.

Several nominated students decided not to participate; therefore some clubs will not be represented.

The final rounds of voting for the court were on October 11th, during students’ second period class. This vote will be the deciding factor in who will become this year’s Homecoming court.
