Jaguars End Fall Season with High Hopes

The Flower Mound Jaguar fall tennis season ended with a loss to Marcus in the semi-finals of the district tournament. Most of the matches took a long time to finish, with many of them requiring three sets to complete.

“It was one of our best matches of the season,” said head coach Brad Wikse. “The fact that we lost makes it even more heartbreaking.”

The seniors were upset that they couldn’t go to regionals in their final year but were optimistic about their chances in the spring.

“It stinks that we couldn’t finish out our high school career in Abilene at the regional tournament,” said Senior Andrew Eurek, “but I have a feeling that if we double our efforts, we’ll be in the regional tournament later this spring.”

The captain for the girl’s side also had some ideas on what they could improve on over the offseason.

“I think that the girls have the most to improve on for the spring,” said Senior Kacie Berutti. “We let way too many matches get away from us that we could have won.”

The coach was optimistic about their chances going into the season since it is now a tournament based format.

“Since the spring season is a more individual based, tournament format, I think our seniors will have a better chance at getting to the regional tournament,” said Coach Wikse.

The spring season does not start until next semester, but the Jaguar tennis team will be practicing all they can to prepare for the season ahead.
