Christine Bolitho (right), Valme Alvarez and Adam Morrison each pose for a photo, excited to start teaching at Flower Mound. They all came from different backgrounds, but were ready to educate. “I guess you could say it’s my dream to come work in Lewisville because its such a good district,” Bolitho said.

Avalanche of Snow Hits Newtown Community

Sandy Hook PTA and community leaders had no idea of the generosity the world would show from a simple request. The National PTA asked in a press release for handmade snowflakes to welcome Sandy Hook students at their new school so the students would be welcomed by a “winter wonderland.”

Flower Mound High School Student Council eagerly responded with heartfelt emotion and fulfilled their request along with millions of other students. The Sandy Hook community has received so many snowflakes that they are now able to decorate every school in the district. They have been receiving them in boxes of 10,000 and they still have many more to open. Students all over the nation as well as 50 other countries have responded with love, support, and encouragement hoping to heal the hearts of those affected by the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Due to the overwhelming volume of unopened mail and contributions of snowflakes this project has already been closed after only 25 days. The community leaders now have a new request for supporters. They would like for people to decorate their own community as a show of support for the Newtown families and share pictures with the Sandy Hook Community and other volunteers.

Although this project is over, there are still other ways people can honor the memory of students and staff lost. Coins for Sandy Hook, Walk-A-Thons, Spirit days and monetary donations may be made until February 14th, 2013. The Newtown Community has been deeply touched by the emotional outreach of each person and is very thankful for the unique creations, cards and kind wishes for their community.
