FMHS Takes on a New Grading Policy

Vicky O'Brien and Karen Frederick

A new grading policy has been introduced to Flower Mound High School this year.

The policy states: in all 18-week classes, students who make a 65 or above during the second semester can average together their two semester grades. If the average is equal to a 70 or above, the student will receive full credit for the course.

If a student only passes one term of their course they will only earn half of a credit. When calculating the average grade, teachers will look at either the fall semester grade or the spring semester grade.

For 27 week classes such as AP Chemistry and AP Biology students can earn one credit if they pass two-thirds of the term. If the student successfully passes the full term, they will earn one and a half credits.

When in an all-year Algebra or Geometry class, the first class is a state course while enrichment is a local course. Each of those two classes will earn one credit.

Students in all-year math classes who make a 65 or above during the second term can average together their two semester grades and earn a full credit for the class if the average is equal to or above a 70.

All-year courses such as social studies and English follow the same averaging guidelines as the math all-year classes.

This new grading policy is designed to be lenient while averaging their grades.
