A Club with a Cause

The Flower Mound High School UNICEF Club was created to inspire each and every FMHS student to help change the lives of millions of less-fortunate children by providing them with a better environment.

For a club that started with zero students at the beginning of this year, the UNICEF club has come very far. Even though the size of the group might be small, they are proud of all of their hard work and achievements this year.

The UNICEF club sponsors fundraisers which helps underprivileged children around the world.

For their first fundraiser this year, they asked students and teachers to collect money during second period classes, with the reward of winning a pizza party. The club was surprised to see many classes participate, and by the end of two weeks they had raised $500.

To many people, $500 is just a number. In contrast, to millions of children in over 150 countries this means new vaccines, school supplies, food and water.

The UNICEF club did not stop there; to continue helping disadvantaged children, they sold Christmas UNICEF ornaments during the lunches. Christmas is known as a season of giving, and the club hoped to inspire others to give to children who needed our school’s help.

The UNICEF club will continue to plan numerous events and fundraisers throughout the rest of the school year in order to aid children around the world.

Students in UNICEF club meet on a weekly basis to organize events and discuss the purpose of the organization. They often educate themselves and others by reading articles on the UNICEF website, and by hanging up posters about UNICEF throughout the school.

By joining the UNICEF high school club, you can understand the ways you can help make a difference in someone’s life. Through their various efforts, they hope to show that our generation will be one of hope.

If the Flower Mound High School UNICEF Club continues to grow and inspire others, the club knows that one day we will be able to help millions of children around the world.
