Destination Imagination Takes on Texas

On March 2nd, Marcus High school hosted the Destination Imagination regional tournament. All Flower Mound High School teams ranked high, with 21 of the FMHS students advancing to the State Destination Imagination tournament in Houston on April 12-13.

“Although I entered in improv, it took my team about 3 months to plan and organize for the competition,” freshman Sarah Weaver said.

Every DI team strives to perfect their project for each tournament. This involves designing and building, acting, painting, writing scripts, poetry and songs. Teams work together on their projects weekly, and the team leaders motivate the teams to work together and excel towards perfection. Their DI projects are then shown at tournaments and scored by numerous judges from schools, hired by the Destination Imagination board.

Scholarships of 500 to 1000 dollars are granted to deserving students who have participated in DI during regional tournaments.

“I love competing,” Weaver said, “It may mean a scholarship if I make it to global.”

After claiming State, students will advance to Global tournaments, competing against other teams from around the world, including: China, South Korea, Brazil, and Canada.
