Ekphrasis

Elizabeth Rawson, Staff Writer

Mrs. Crabtree’s English II Humanities classes briefly covered the concept of ekphrasis poetry and art at the end of March to cover poetry writing. Ekphrasis is the literary interpretation of a work of art, so English students chose a well known piece of art and wrote a poem based on it. Mrs. Harper’s AP Art 3 students then did reverse-ekphrasis to make an art piece based on the poem. Art students did not know the piece of art behind the poem to add yet another layer of artistic interpretation. The art pieces will be displayed in the library alongside the original poem.
