FMHS Band Wins Again

Flower Mound High School won the 2016 Bands of America Regional competition in San Antonio last Saturday. Flower Mound scored the most points overall (93.30) for the second year in a row and was awarded Outstanding Music Performance, Outstanding Visual Performance, and Outstanding General Effect.
This is the first time for a band to sweep the competition since 2007, when Marcus High School did it, and the first time in six years for a school to win two years in a row. I spoke to color guard member Mickayla Sanders about the competition, and she responded with this: “It was just absolutely crazy winning the competition. It was amazing being in San Antonio with all these great bands from all over the state. I would just get so nervous watching everybody thinking, oh wow they’re pretty good. But I never lost faith in us, I knew that we could do it. Then in the end it just showed how well we all can work as one coordinated team. Not just as the color guard, but the band too. I’m just so glad that we won.”
Congratulations to the band for winning in San Antonio. Let’s hope that they can bring in another win next year to make it three years in a row.
