A Campus Under Construction

Sounds of hammers and drills fill the hallways as construction continues all over the campus. With a new 9th grade center, theater additions, and sporting fields, the school is getting a much needed update. In addition, some routes and locations of parking lots have changed, but the amount of parking space hasn’t.

“The completion of the construction has phased many times but will be done July of 2014,” assistant principal Joe Bracket said.

According to Bracket, there have been no major setbacks creating any delays. The only real setback has been a power line found beneath the tennis courts, consequently shifting the work location; however, the problem is taken care of now and construction is back on track.

“Currently the athletic fields and the indoor facility are finished, excluding the baseball field, the freshman center, the basketball arena, and black box, which are fifty percent done” assistant principal Chad Russell said.

When Bracket talked to students they claim to be annoyed, but over time they begin to ignore the construction and the changes.

The process to design the new buildings and facilities occurred at a district level. Companies were hired to create the design and work on construction.

“More space, better facilities and buildings, and more recreational areas for students,” Russell said.

One recreational area is the lounge commons, currently being built outside of the library. The lounge commons will include a coffee shop, allowing students easy access to coffee at school.

In July 2014, all of the buildings and facilities should be completed and all of the construction will be gone. The construction will absolutely be worth the time and money according to Russell and Bracket.
