Fate of The Furious: Review

The evergreen Fast and Furious franchise is back with a bang after the smash hit, Fast 7, a film that was made in honor of the late Paul Walker. The concept of “family”, in fact, is the central point of the film, with past family entering and departing the film and propelling the film forward.

The film opens up with Dominic Toretto, known for his love for his family, his Heist Crew, bombing their headquarters and stealing God’s Eye, a device that can locate anything anywhere on Earth. From that point on, the movie revolves around his Heist Crew trying to find Dom and find out why he has turned on them and, if possible, bring Dom back to become the man he once was. Who is Cipher? And what does she have to do with Dom? Is Dom’s past coming back to haunt him, or is it possibly the greatest thing to have ever happened to him? To find out the answers to all these questions, enjoy Fate of The Furious in theaters today.

This heist film with a gargantuan budget revolves around the betrayal of Dominic Toretto, why he betrayed his family, and what was it in the past that was unknown to him, and how he can get out of this sticky situation.  Vin Diesel, the man with split agendas due to his past and uncompromising situation, is simply brilliant. He underplays the role very well and instead of his cheesy dialogue from earlier in the franchise, Diesel plays a very different Toretto who cannot open up to anyone about his situation, but is so stuck in between two poles that going toward either scenario would be suicide. Apart from that, the rest of Toretto’s crew, with artists like Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, and Ludacris, are their usual selves. The surprise package though is Tyrese Gibson as Roman, who is given a larger scope for comedy and brings the house down at frequent intervals.

As per the budget, the the cinematography leaves the audience spellbound, and the editing is crisp with no lag in the proceedings. However, the film is supported by a background score packed with hip-hop, featuring prominent artists like Tyga, mainstay 2 Chainz, and newbies like Migos giving thumping music that complements the action perfectly.

All in all, Director Gary Gray once again proves his mettle when it comes to churning out action thrillers, and gives an edgy Fast and Furious movie like none before. Don’t miss this one guys.
