Playoff Spot Secured on Senior Night

The Lady Jags basketball team made a statement on their senior night with  a 57-47 win against Allen last Tuesday. This win put their record at 12-2 which at this point assures a  spot in playoffs.

“Since it was also senior night, everyone was kind of nervous about how it would go,” junior point guard Makenzie Grill said. “But we all played really well, and the pressure seemed to be nonexistent once we were on the court.”

Senior guard Kayla Mount was very pleased with their win, but not necessarily surprised.

“We lost to Allen the first time but we played really bad, so I don’t think Allen is a tough opponent,” Mount said.

With the first game against Allen being one of the Lady Jags’ only two losses, they were ready to prove that it was a fluke that they lost the first time.  Surprisingly, senior night didn’t seem to affect the players’ emotions during the game.

“It hasn’t hit me yet that I’m a senior,” Mount said. “It probably won’t until I graduate.”

The distractions of senior night did nothing to phase the Lady Jags.

“During the game I didn’t really think about it being senior night because I wanted to win the game no matter what,” Mount said.

The team’s many competitive natures proved to be an advantage on a night like Tuesday. With this being Mount’s fourth and final year on Flower Mound’s varsity team, she took a few moments to reflect on what she’ll be feeling when the season finally does come to a close.

“It will definitely be emotional for me when the season is over,” Mount said.  “I’m going to miss all of my teammates the most.”

Hopefully, the Lady Jags will keep playing like they are, and the season won’t be over for quite some time.  Playoff prospects are looking excellent, and the girls couldn’t be more excited for the challenge.

“It’s going to be really fun to do well in the playoffs,” Grill said. “I think we have a really good chance of being successful.”
