After twelve long, hard weeks of practice everyday, some being  hours after school  was let out or the early hours of the morning, the competition squad finally  traveled  to Disney world to compete and show off all their hard work.

In the UCA Small Co-Ed Finals, they competed against thirty-four teams in the first competition, and then competed against other small co-ed teams in the Finals on Saturday, February 8th.

The competition squad tried their absolute hardest and earned this spot in the  Universal Cheerleaders Association Nationals (UCA).

“Although I am not on the competition squad, I saw all the hard work the cheerleaders put into this competition and I knew they would do great,”  freshman cheerleader Caroline Spain said.

“It was the biggest crowd we had ever competed  in front of,” former freshman cheerleader Alexis Simmons said.

“At first, you’re extremely nervous because you do not know what the floors are going to be like and you don’t know what your competitors will be like as well,” Alexis said.

The rules here were also very different than the cheerleaders were used to.

With all the freshman, JV, and varsity girls all rooming together, some might suspect some drama and tempers to flare.

“It was fun and I got a lot closer with them, we had little to no drama and all got along great,” Alexis said.

Ian Bode, Mallory Moss, and Tory Hammond were the three Varsity seniors who competed and who will all be graduating soon. These three cheerleaders also won a number of awards for their team such as a National’s Bid, Chant Champion Award, Performance Top Team Winner, Overall SPIRIT Award and a number of spirit sticks throughout the camp period.  Also, the cheer team’s mascot ‘Jaggy’ took home the  award of top honored and most spirited.

Finally after competing for two long, nerve wracking, and stressful days, the cheerleaders took home 15th place.

“We did great in my opinion and we tried our hardest and put our best work in and that is all that matters,”Alexis said.
