A close score of 34-33 gave the Flower Mound football team the first district win of the season over Lewisville on Friday, October 12.

Lewisville’s Goldsmith Stadium was packed as the fans watched senior wide receiver Brendan Ianiero score two touchdowns and junior quarterback Connor Wanhanen rush for a touchdown.

The win came with a price for the Jaguars when both safety Blake Spencer broke his leg during the 2nd quarter and wide receiver Brandon Baker suffered a concussion during the 4th quarter.

“Blake Spencer broke his tibia and fibula,” head coach Dane Johnson said. “He had surgery Saturday morning and is doing well.”

Spencer’s injury will leave him out of the rest of the season. Baker will only miss the upcoming two games.

Coach Johnson is very proud of his players for their determination throughout the game.

“At halftime the score was 14-7 Lewisville,” Johnson said. “They could’ve given up at half time, but they kept pushing on.”

Ianiero recognized the losing state the team was in but acknowledged the players’ willpower to push through the game.

“I’m very proud of my team for not giving up,” Ianiero said. “But we need to keep playing hard throughout the entire game in order to prevent the other team from getting any chances.”

Despite leaving the stadium with a victory, the coach feels like there are improvements to be made.

“The defense that we run is a very good one,” Johnson said. “But it’s also very difficult. If all of our defensive players do what they’re supposed to do, the defense will work perfectly.”

The team’s tactics will be put to the test when Flower Mound hosts their homecoming game against Coppell Friday, October 19.
