2013 Fall TV Preview
October 15, 2013
The beginning of fall brings different elements to a student’s daily life. School and everything that comes with it begins with the new season. Although teens get caught up with homework, sports, and jobs, they still find time for their favorite new and returning TV shows.
Returning to CBS, The Big Bang Theory is back with America’s favorite nerds. In its seventh season, experimental physicist Leonard Hofstader, played by Johnny Galecki, tries to deepen his relationship with his girlfriend Penny, played by Kaley Cuoco, but Leonard’s roommate, theoretical physicist Sheldon Cooper, played by Emmy Award winner Jim Parsons, often gets in the way.
“The Big Bang Theory is one of the funniest shows I have ever seen,” sophomore Macy Prebel said. “I love the comedy aspect of it and how ironic it is that all of these brilliant scientists have the hobbies and friends that they do.”
Other returning comedies include How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men, Modern Family and Last Man Standing.
Even though Duck Dynasty started only one year ago, it already has an large fan base. The reality show’s fourth season premiere brought in 11.8 million viewers. The show surrounds Willie Robertson, who owns the multi-million dollar duck-call company, Duck Commander. Although Willie is the CEO of the company, he still makes time for his family.
“I would describe Duck Dynasty as a family oriented show,” sophomore Stephanie Wursten said. “I love how it has plenty of good clean humor in it, unlike most of the shows on TV today.”
The Voice, The Amazing Race, Survivor and The X Factor are other reality shows that have returned.
Although some may seem unknown, many new shows have become instant hits with students. Premiering series this fall include Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Sleepy Hollow, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Blacklist.
Fox recently renewed the mystery drama Sleepy Hollow for a second season. Set in modern-day, Sleepy Hollow’s Lt. Abbie Mills allies with Ichabod Crane, a Revolutionary War veteran that has risen from the grave, to find the murderous Headless Horseman, a man Ichabod had killed in battle.
“I love the action element to the show,” sophomore Hailey Hammitt said. “If given the chance, I wouldn’t change anything. I already think it’s great.”
In The Blacklist, three-time Emmy Award winner James Spader plays Raymond “Red” Reddington, a fugitive on the FBI’s most wanted list that surrenders himself. Red provides FBI Special Agent Elizabeth Keen with “The Blacklist”, a list of the most important unknown fugitives.
“The Blacklist is very tedious, mysterious, and suspenseful,” freshman Sam Damaske said. “It’s one of those shows that comes along every once in a while that keeps you glued to the screen constantly.”
