5 Ways to Prevent Frizzy Hair
April 19, 2016
Most girls have probably had to deal with frizzy hair at some point in their life, and if you haven’t, be grateful. If you are like me, then you deal with frizzy hair. Dealing with frizzy hair is a constant struggle and I’m tired of it. Frizzy hair is mostly caused by lack of moisture in your hair, but humidity can play a big part in frizzy hair as well. Throughout the day, your hair begins to lose moisture. Midday, the outermost layer of hair, the cuticle, opens up and lets outside air in.
Here are 5 ways to help prevent that pesky frizz:
- Rinse your hair with cool to cold water. This will help to close the cuticle and help keep the moisture from the conditioner locked into place. So, by all means, take a warm shower, but at the end rinse with cold water.
- Brush your hair regularly to help distribute the natural oils. Hanging your head upside down and brushing your hair helps to distribute the oils in your hair from the roots to the rest of your hair. This will keep your hair hydrated and will help to block out humidity.
- Put a product in your hair prior to playing sports or working out. The sodium found in perspiration can dehydrate your hair, so it’s always a good idea to put a little bit of leave-in conditioner beforehand.
- Let your hair air dry 85-90 percent of the way before you use a blow-dryer. Too much hot air focused directly on your hair will dehydrate it, and in turn causes frizz. But if you let it air dry most of the way before using a blow-dryer, then some of the moisture is already locked in.
- Use a hand or body lotion to tame frizzy fly aways. Put a teeny tiny amount of lotion onto your finger tips and rub them together before running your hands over top of your hair. Remember you can always add more lotion, but you can’t take it out. So you should be wary of the amount you use.
