Nowadays the world revolves around the internet and one key part of the internet is social media. Social Media has been deemed as dangerous or a place where insecurities come from, but I think it’s a wonderful thing. Social Media is a way the world can connect and build a community.
Social Media is a place where people are allowed to express and share their interests. This can lead others to find people with the same passion as themselves and can reach out and make new friends. For example my friend, Drea, has always loved anime and cosplaying, but her friends in school didn’t like it as much. Drea then started to upload TikToks and post instagrams of her cosplays and found others with the same interests. She made friends with more kids her age with the same passions as her. To this day she still talks to them and sometimes invites them to hangout with her and her other friends.
The internet could be a dangerous place. Strangers and older men could reach younger kids on socials. But there is an easy way to prevent this. There is an option to put your account in private which prevents people you dont allow to see your posts or message you. And if the kids are too young to understand the dangers of strangers, their parents shouldn’t even allow them to have it.
The biggest argument made about Social Media is that a lot of younger girls and boys can see inst models and feel insecure. And there is a point there. People tend to post their best selves and when the younger generation sees that and feels they dont look that good or don’t have the same luxuries as someone else. But there are just as many posts about building confidence and telling people that they are amazing just the way you are.
Social Media is a way to connect to those you love. This is very important especially in these trying times of quartines and pandemics. Without Social Media I would have probably lost all my friends. I have managed to keep them by snapchatting them about our common problems in our day to day problems.
Social Media is a wonderful thing despite its flaws. But everything and everyone has its flaws.
