World Series

After a hard-fought season, the Kansas City Royals won the World Series. They rushed onto Citi Field after their 7-2 victory against the New York Mets. They celebrated their accomplishment and were joined by friends, family, and fans as well. It was game five of the World Series, and by winning their fourth game, they clinched it.

Christian Colon, a Royals shortstop, hit the game winning run in the twelfth inning during his first at-bat since October 4th. The Royals continued to increase their lead, from 3-2 to 7-2 and the game was theirs.

Both teams had many struggles to overcome. Yoenis Cespedes, an outfielder for the Mets, fouled a ball off his knee, injuring him and forcing him to leave game 5. At the beginning of the series, Royals starting pitcher Edinson Volquez, played only to find out afterwards his father had passed away shortly before the game. Both Royals players Mike Moustakas, third base, and Chris Young, pitcher, had lost parents to cancer in the previous three months. This win was something they had dreamed of sharing with their parents, and now that dream was to win in memory of them.

But in the face of all this, they managed to fight on and win. This was an inspiration to young players all over the nation who were going through hard times as well. And by beating the Mets, a team who won the National League Championship, which had the top three teams in baseball, the Cardinals, Pirates, and Cubs, they showed that the underdog can come through and win.

Losing is hard. The Mets, who had celebrated after a four-game sweep against the Cubs at Wrigley Field that sent them to the World Series, had to watch the opponent celebrate on their home turf. But, they remained respectful, congratulating the Royals on the win and turning their focus to next season.

Next season looks promising. Cardinals, Cubs, Blue Jays, and Royals are looking to be definite contenders for next year’s postseason. The Royals are ready to come back next year fueled by this win and continue on.
