The Flower Mound High School Air Force Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, or the AFJROTC, will present the United States and Texas flags at the Varsity boys basketball game on Friday, December 14th at 6 p.m. The AFJROTC presents the color guard at all boys and girls Varsity home basketball games.
“It has been an Air Force ROTC tradition to provide color guards at FMHS basketball games,” Lieutenant Colonel David Hansen said. “We present the colors to add additional focus on the national anthem that is played before the game.”
AFJROTC practices twice a week for color guard, and also about an hour before the game.
At the games, the U.S. and Texas flags are presented together with two cadets acting as guards, who carry rifles on the outside of the formation. The U.S. flag is the highest ranking flag and is never lowered. During the presentation of colors for the national anthem, the Texan flag is lowered, which positions it to pay honor to the U.S. flag.
“The members that present the flags vary from game to game,” Hansen said. “We have about twelve cadets who are experienced in doing the color guard at this time and we are training more cadets to be able to present the colors.”
Audiences can also encounter the AFJROTC at the boys Varsity basketball game on Friday, December 21st at 6:30 p.m.
