The Jaguar baseball team will travel to Kingwood, Texas on February 20 for their first regular season game.
In previous years, the team has competed in the Woodlands Tournament in Houston, but this year the Jags will play in a similar tournament in Kingwood.
“We are guaranteed five games in this tournament,” head coach Danny Wallace said. “This will give us more game experience than in the Woodlands.”
The Woodlands baseball tournament is only a guaranteed four games per team while Kingwood gathers more teams for more games, giving everybody more game experience.
With a new coach and new teammates, the Jags are optimistic about their new venue.
“We are going down to this tournament to show we are still a top team to contend with in Texas,” senior and outfielder Austin Musacchio said. “Our defense, offense, and pitching are getting better each week.”
The coaches are also excited to see the new talent this year, as there are only six returning starters.
“With new varsity players on the team, we’re going to have to give them time,” assistant coach Pat Watson said. “We play these tournaments at the beginning of the year for a reason.”
The first of the games will take place at Kingwood High School in a double-header; the opener against Spring High, and the second against Clear Creek High.
With optimistic players and coaches, five wins in Kingwood would show other teams in the area that Flower Mound is truly a “top team to contend with” as Musacchio said.
Flower Mound will be hosting a home tournament starting Thursday, February 28 against big-name teams like Rockwall Heath and Edward S. Marcus. All Jags pool games will be played during school hours, but the championship game will be on Saturday.
Make sure you come out and support the Jaguar baseball team as they move into another successful season.
