FMHS Baseball Claims Victory Against Marcus

On Friday, March 22, the FMHS baseball teams played against their long-time rival, Marcus High School. Each team played a game against their Marcus counterparts and won by a margin of at least two points, leaving their opponents in the dust.

“We always enjoy playing against Marcus,” freshman Nick Thornquist said. “It is always entertaining because we know most of the Marcus team, and it’s a friendly competition.”

Despite the strong friendships the Flower Mound Baseball team has formed with the Marcus team, neither has any reservations about playing their hardest to thoroughly beat the other. Friday’s game demonstrated this with the freshman baseball team winning 8-5, the junior varsity teams 7-2, and the varsity team 3-1.

“We do a lot of mental and physical training,” senior Mackay Jacobsen said. “It’s necessary when going into a rivalry game against the team ranked number one in North Texas.”

Each team actively practiced after school every day. The boys work hard to improve themselves and become more dedicated players, and help each other advance for the betterment of the team as a whole. Driven to win by their motto of “one more”, the teams’ hard work paid off in the end.

“We are childhood friends with a lot of them, but that didn’t stop us from going in and doing our best,” Jacobsen said. “We knew they were going to do well and were expecting it to be hard to win, so we are all satisfied with the fight they put up.”

Because of the close friendships the rival teams have formed with each other, they knew what to expect and it gave each of them a chance to prepare to the best of their abilities and put on a first-class performance.

The hard-fought victories against Marcus provided the teams with the extra practice and assurance of their skill that they needed to play and defeat Coppell High School on Thursday, March 28.
