Many residents would consider the food scene in Flower Mound as lacking, or even non-existent, others however, are completely confident that the restaurants of Flower Mound are satisfactory. “There is Chik-fil-A, Chili’s and Taco Bell,” sophomore Rebecca Sasso stated, “What else could you need?”
Although Flower Mound is lacking in the extravagant cuisine department, that does not mean that there are no locally owned or exotic restaurants in the area.
Que Huong is a Vietnamese pho kitchen and grill that serves a variety of foods, from pho, a type of Vietnamese soup, to Thai style noodles and grilled meats.
“Since I was born in Viet Nam, flavor of the pho at Que Huong gives me feelings of nostalgia for my home,” senior Cameron Le said. “Que Huong has become a great place to have family meals, and the pho really brings all of us together.”
At the opposite end of the spectrum is Johnny G’s, a restaurant that blends Cajun and Italian cooking for an eclectic menu that satisfies any pallet.
“Johnny G’s is definitely a favorite of mine, the fresh oysters are out of this world,” senior Matthew Harrison said. “It has good down home Cajun cooking that reminds me of my Louisiana roots, while offering an Italian option if I feel like branching out.”
Another favorite of FMHS students is Palio’s Pizza Café, a growing franchise that specializes in fresh pizza and pasta. Since the dough is made from scratch in the restaurant, and all of the toppings are from top notch Italian food distributers, the pizza that comes from Palio’s could be considered the best in town.
“I go to Palio’s at least once a week,” senior Kayla Johnson said, “The food is great, the place has a very homey atmosphere to it, and the workers are very friendly and easy to talk to.”
Next on the list is Papad’z, a “hole-in-the-wall” Indian kitchen in Founder’s Square that most Flower Mound residents have not even heard of. However, it offers some of the best, and perhaps the only, Indian cuisine in town. Do not let the bland interior, vapid atmosphere, or poor choice of dishware turn you away from Papad’z, for the food is rich with exotic spices and savory flavors that you will not find at any other major Flower Mound restaurant.
“I consider myself a sort of Indian food aficionado,” senior Diego Palomarez said, “and Papad’z provides Indian food done right, something that is very hard to find in this region.”
Although Flower Mound may not have a thriving local food scene, options exist if you simply know where to look.
