Most high school students would never consider becoming homeschooled and putting everything into being a country music artist, but that is exactly what Ty Myers did. And now, the risky tree he planted has plenty of fruit to reap the rewards of.
At just 17 years old, Ty Myers is a driving factor in country music’s comeback to mainstream pop culture. After opening for country sensation Flatland Cavalry and performing “Should’ve Been a Cowboy”, a western music staple, Myers announced his own tour, which almost completely sold out in under a week. Less than a month after Ty Myers: The Select Tour tickets went on sale, he nearly doubled the amount of shows, going from 27 to 44, and still selling out most dates. His new album, “The Select”, has fans everywhere listening on repeat, with his new song “Drinkin’ Alone” already at 31 billion streams. Right after release day for the album, Myers was named Billboard’s Country Rookie of the Month.
The album opens with “Ends of the Earth”, which was first released on October 18, 2024.
“To the ends of the Earth, I will / I’ll follow you” Myers sings, stealing young girls’ hearts all across the world.
The album continues to hold the older country sound, avoiding modern day “Bro Country” consisting of artists like Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton. Myers instead leans into the romantic side of country music with songs like “Let ‘Em Talk” and “Firefly”.
Following the success of his debut album, Myers announced “The Select: Deluxe Edition” at his sold-out concert at Billy Bob’s. As a rising country star, playing The World’s Largest Honky Tonk is his biggest step forward into the music industry thus far. From Willie Nelson to B.B. King, Billy Bob’s has hosted countless stars, with Ty Myers propelling into being one of the greats to go down in history.
Despite thousands of young girls obsessing over him, his concert revealed his young age and inflated ego. With little waves to the 18+ crowd and frequent biting of his bottom lip, Myers has some maturing to do before he can truly own the stage and become like his idols.
Myers was born and raised in Austin, Texas, known as the “Live Music Capital of the World”, with over 250 music venues active every week. His father was a songwriter who liked to perform at local venues, inspiring Myers to connect with the old blues sound of country rather than the typical pop infused blend that is seen in the majority of country music today.
Myers’ The Select is bringing teenage audiences back to the classic style of country music, including legends like George Strait and Jimi Hendrix. In just 16 songs, Myers is able to grasp concepts of love, loss, joy, and sorrow, complex emotions for a 17 year old to feel, much less be able to put into lyrics. Myers proves that country music never goes out of style, we just need the right artist to reintroduce us to the genre.
