The girls varsity golf team is scheduled to participate in the Vanessa Close Memorial Tournament hosted at the Bridlewood golf course on February 15-16.

Playing for Flower Mound is senior Fran Rodriguez, sophomore Callie Morris, junior Sarah Huber, junior Sequoia Bagrow, and freshmen Ellie Sharp. District rivals Marcus and Hebron are also be competing for the win.

It will be great preparation for the District Tournament which will be held at the same site as this tournament,” assistant golf coach Darren Bailey said.

Senior varsity golfer Fran Rodriguez looks forward to competing in a tournament that was left unfinished last year.

Last year’s tournament was fun,” Fran said. “It was at a course in Carrolton, but on the second day it was rained out, so the tournament was cancelled.”

The Lady Jags golfers have a leading record for fall season tournaments. The girls took fourth at the Byron Nelson Varsity Fall Classic and finished fifth in the Marauder Autumn Open. They hope to continue the streak at the Vanessa Close Invitational.

We usually finish top ten in this tournament,” Bailey said. “We have had some girls finish in top five in the past.”

This is Fran’s last year with the Flower Mound golf team. On February 6th, Fran signed her letter of intent to play for Bowling Green State University.

It is bitter sweet because I’m excited for the tournaments to come this semester and for district,” Fran said, “However, I am sad knowing it is my last year with the team.”
